In the dreary, stifling dormitories of a construction site, how do the men and women there satisfy their needs? This is the story of a woman who, driven by the hardships of married life, had no choice but to take a job on a construction site.
Li Xiaomin was once a left-behind wife who stayed behind in a mountain village. Though she was young and had to endure a marriage in name only, she believed that her chance to get ahead would come. She and Zhang Wei truly loved each other, and she was willing to do anything for him and their child. But when both her father and mother-in-law fell ill, life dealt the couple a devastating blow. Only then did Li Xiaomin finally understand that love was the least important thing in a marriage. Their sixth-grade daughter, the baby still in her womb, and the elderly couple's medical bills left them overwhelmed. In the end, worn down by both harsh reality and her own thoughts, Li Xiaomin died in despair.
Sent back to the time before the tragedy, Li Xiaomin no longer lets her thinking hold her back or allows the conventions of marriage to bind her. She ends her pregnancy, divorces Zhang Wei, and moves to the city with her daughter and father.
She works hard at the construction site while arranging treatment for her father. He can help look after her daughter, and the girl can remind him to take his medicine. Little by little, their lives improve.
Later, at the construction site, she meets a man who truly cares for her and treats her tenderly.
