I Smiled When My Legitimate Eldest Son Was Switched at Birth by a Concubine’s Rival

On the day I gave birth, I discovered that Lin Wanwan, my husband’s concubine, had switched her baby with mine.

I gave the midwife, who knew the truth, three thousand taels of silver and told her to keep quiet.

The concubine’s son was raised at my knee as the legitimate eldest son of the marquis’s household, and the family spared no effort in cultivating him.

At eighteen, he placed third in the palace examinations. Handsome and refined, he soon won the emperor’s favor.

Meanwhile, my son was beaten mercilessly by Lin Wanwan every day and given barely enough to eat. He grew short and frail.

She also deliberately led him into gambling dens and pleasure houses, where he picked up every vice in the book. At just sixteen, he was convicted of a crime and sentenced to be tattooed.

On the day the heir was formally invested, Lin Wanwan blocked the top scholar at the marquis’s gates, tears streaming down her face.

“My stolen son! I’m your poor, long-lost birth mother!”

I smiled serenely.

“Lin Wanwan, I’ve been waiting a long time for you to come.”
