Siheyuan: Trying to Scheme Against Me? I'm Honest, Not Stupid

This is the legendary story of the honest, burly Wang Tiezhu, who leaves the countryside for a city courtyard compound. There, he encounters all sorts of neighbors: the sharp-tongued Jia Zhangshi, the selfish and stingy Third Uncle, the opportunistic Xu Damao, and many others. Yet he never loses his kindness. When Xu Damao rigs things against him as he looks for work, Wang Tiezhu wins an opportunity through his sincerity. Though everyday life brings its share of petty neighborhood troubles, he finds clever ways to resolve them, and earns everyone’s respect by returning lost valuables. His romance with Lin Xiuer hits one obstacle after another, with Xu Damao repeatedly sabotaging them, but the couple’s love remains strong. During hard times, Wang Tiezhu leads the residents of the courtyard compound in facing their difficulties together. From career advancement to a happy family, and from neighborhood disputes to cooperation and mutual support, Wang Tiezhu writes a remarkable story of his own in this unique courtyard compound, painting a vivid portrait of life in the early years after Liberation: warm, lively, and full of twists and turns.
