Though an intelligence agent, she had a kind heart. In 1940, she risked her life to pass a message to her friend Cornell, helping him escape capture by the Kuomintang. In 1951, she was sentenced to death for her intelligence work, but after Cornell pleaded on her behalf, her sentence was commuted to labor reform. She died of illness in 1985. Her life was full of legend.
