The Black Lizard

After Gu Long, read Huang Ying. The Black Lizard, one of Huang Ying's Six Tales of Terror. A new-school wuxia novel: The Black Lizard. Young swordsman Long Fei fights the notorious bandit Sima Nu to the death at Heartbreak Slope. On his way back, he encounters a strange man covered in scales like a lizard, driving a carriage with a coffin aboard. Inside the coffin lies a wooden statue identical to his fiancée, Zizhu. Stranger still, the statue can speak. Long Fei follows the man to a grand estate, but both the stranger and the coffin vanish. As misty rain drifts through the air, a woman dressed as Guanyin appears mysteriously, then disappears into a small tower. When Long Fei investigates, he discovers that she is someone who died three years ago... A succession of bizarre and terrifying events follows, making matters ever more complicated. The ending remains a mystery until the final page. This is a refreshingly original wuxia novel, full of danger, twists, and bone-chilling terror.
