Li Xiaoyu’s Wandering Journey: The Shadows of Childhood
The 1990s were an era without the smoke of war, but with a rapidly growing population. The family planning policy was like a tightening spell, yet people waged a desperate struggle against it to have children who could work.
Against this turbulent backdrop, Li Xiaoyu was born. When she was just a month old, she was hurriedly sent to live with her paternal grandmother in the countryside. There, she experienced a brief moment of warmth and peace, faint as a firefly’s glow.
But when she returned to her parents at the age of four, it was as if she had plunged into an endless abyss of darkness. Simply because she was not a boy, her mother looked at her only with contempt and disgust. Each scolding cut into her young heart like a blade. Her older sister treated her with icy indifference, and her father acted as though she did not exist. To Li Xiaoyu, home had become a cold, cruel prison.
School should have been a temple of learning, but for Li Xiaoyu, it was the beginning of another nightmare. She studied with all her might, yet her classmates bullied her mercilessly. When she fought back, her mother beat and berated her even more viciously. Every slap and kick plunged her world deeper into darkness.
To escape this living hell, she ran away from home again and again. But the outside world was an even darker quagmire. She was deceived by ill-intentioned people and sexually abused. She endured days of hunger and cold, scraping by on the streets like a stray dog. And yet, she would rather not return to that so-called home. Even dying outside would be better than staying another moment in a place devoid of love and warmth.
The pace of this book is really fast. In a relatively short space, it takes us to quickly understand the short life of a girl, hiding many unspeakable sufferings. It just tells the turning points of life one after another in a straightforward manner. The whole thing is calm and dull. The same is generally true in life. In fact, there are not so many bright moments, but more of the darkest moments that we grit our teeth to get through, or in other words, one after another when we think the dawn will come soon. When I was young, I didn't understand that "ordinariness is true" and always hoped that I could achieve great things. Later I realized that living is already a matter of trying my best. At present, I think the biggest problem with this book is that some chapters are out of order, although it does not affect reading. Secondly, in the end, different people wrote something similar to a "eulogy", which solved some doubts and left some doubts. I feel that the author's control of the overall story may be a little weak, but it is understandable. After all, this part of the content is more personal. What everyone describes is what he or she sees and understands. It is normal that he cannot follow the full text. All in all, it's pretty good! Come on, author!
What a depressing novel. The youngest lived with her grandma, got familiar with everything in the countryside and was taken to the city. Her parents didn't like her and she was partial to her sister. She made up her mind to escape but didn't know where to go. Her parents told her they would take good care of her but she remained the same. The pain of her original left-behind family made her escape from such a life, but she experienced all the evils of human nature. She was insulted and deceived. She chased her dreams but hit the wall repeatedly. , The juvenile detention center tightly bound her like a cage. She didn't understand, she was afraid, and she adapted to her strength. She used her eyes that she thought could see through people, and chose an irresponsible, unreliable, and poor partner, a domestically violent and vicious mother-in-law, and irresponsible family members (both sides). She was determined to live a strong life with her children after the divorce. She had tried her best to do everything well, but life did not let her go. Perhaps it was a mistake from birth. She lived the happiest childhood with her grandmother, carefree, but the nightmare began after her parents picked her up. However, she did not give up hope. Even after experiencing being insulted, deceived and met with unkind people, she still picked up the courage to chase her dreams, even if she hit the wall. After coming back, even in the depressing juvenile detention center, she would still stand up to protect herself and the weak, to protect the weak and schizophrenic little girl. After experiencing a failed marriage, she still had illusions about her partner and gave her many opportunities before finally giving up. For the sake of her children, she could not live the same life as she did, and she tried her best to let her live the best life. She has been working hard. My friend, what qualifications do you have not to work hard? People in the world have lived like this. Our happy life, we... Because you don't have to be responsible? Even if we do not help others, we should not use a knife on others. Don't despair about life's mistakes
