The book "The Apology of Socrates" selects three passages from "The Complete Works of Plato", "Eusyphro", "Apology" and "Crito", and also includes three introductions from "Plato's Dialogues" written by Professor Benjamin Jowett of Oxford University.
In 399 BC, the 70-year-old Socrates was brought to court by three Athenian citizens for not worshiping the recognized gods, spreading new ideas, and corrupting the youth. For this reason, Socrates made a famous defense in front of a jury of 500 people. This was the first public speech in Socrates' life. He took this opportunity to tell the main experiences of his life and his understanding of life, wisdom, philosophy, etc. But this defense did not save Socrates' life, and he was eventually sentenced to death. Socrates was like a martyr, he died completely for his beliefs, and he died a worthy death.
