Pei Yunxi huddled in her bedchamber, eyes red as she silently wept.

"They bullied me again..."

Though she was a princess of the empire, her mother had died young, and her peerlessly beautiful face made her the target of her older and younger sisters' constant exclusion.

Even the emperor, her own father, always treated her coldly.

One day, Pei Yunxi could no longer bear this life and began trying every way she could to escape the vast imperial palace.

But in the imperial palace, how could it be easy for a princess to run away?

Every time the soldiers caught her and brought her back, her father would punish her by making her kneel in the Imperial Ancestral Temple for three days and nights.

"Can someone please help me...?"

At last, Pei Yunxi's miserable fate as a princess caught up with her.

"In seven days, you will marry into the royal family of a neighboring kingdom."

She shook her head in terror. "No, no, I don't want to..."

But resisting was clearly futile. Until the wedding, she could only be locked in the Imperial Ancestral Temple day and night, shut away from the light.

She cried until exhaustion overcame her, and fell asleep in the temple.

She had no idea that after she drifted off, the temple doors opened and a handsome man, aloof and stern, entered with reddened eyes. He held her in his arms as if she were a priceless treasure.

"Xi'er, wait for me. I'll right every wrong you've suffered."
