The Snake Jade’s Fragrance

I was betrothed in childhood to a Chang immortal of distinguished status. When I was eight, my mother invited an immortal to kill my father. The price the immortal demanded was that I marry him. He also left behind a dragon-patterned jade pendant as a token of our engagement. But ten years passed in the blink of an eye, and the immortal wanted to break off our engagement. My awful relatives sold me for the bride price, and I had only two or three years left to live… With no other choice, I turned around and married his older brother. It was a contractual marriage: I had to bear Lord Liu a child within a year, and in return he would grant me a lifetime of wealth and luxury. I was his secret wife, an ordinary woman who couldn’t be shown in public. To outsiders, I was merely his spirit medium. A jade Buddha took lives, a Hu immortal prolonged them… We took on countless jobs together, and they drew us into the tangled secrets of our past and present lives. When the year was up, I would leave the child with him and walk away. But when we met again, he refused to let me go. His eyes red, he begged me to marry him once more.
