The Horizon Turns Orange

Orange Stains the Horizon is a realist romance, an epic love story spanning half a century. Centered on the love between Jin Fenghuang and Shan Xingchen, it depicts the complicated emotional entanglements between the heroine, Jin Fenghuang, and six men.

Jin Fenghuang and Shan Xingchen begin a life journey filled with hardship and hope when the horizon turns orange.

The novel portrays several love stories, including unrequited love, whimsical romance, and pure love, using plain language to reveal human nature and human feeling. The heroine, Jin Fenghuang, is beautiful, intelligent, strong, and brave. While working as a local teacher, she gives in to her parents' pressure and tearfully gets engaged to Mo Shaode. After local teachers are made permanent, Jin Fenghuang marries Wen Huixing, a vice principal who also began his career as a local teacher. But she is plunged into hardship when Wen Huixing is jailed for taking bribes and then throws himself in front of a train. While working with a former colleague, the Hong Kong businessman Tang Mengcai, she is jailed on suspicion of fraud. She then turns to direct sales, only to be struck another blow when her business partner Dongfang Bai is arrested for fraud. Even her encounter with Nan Haojie leaves her with regrets in love.

Shan Xingchen, too, has a fate full of misfortune. After his wife Han Tianmei dies, he is already a company general manager when he returns to his hometown to establish a branch office and helps Jin Fenghuang relocate and rename her hotel. At the age of 55, after 36 years of yearning and unrequited love, they finally clasp hands and enter the marriage hall as the horizon turns orange once more.

Through delicate emotional storytelling, the novel shows how ordinary people remain devoted to love through the twists of fate, and how they persevere in their struggle against the backdrop of a changing age. In this era of rampant materialism, it is like a clear spring, refreshing the soul.
