Heart Journey: 35th Anniversary [Edited by Fenghuang Niepan]

35 Years of the Heart's Journey is a novel by Fenghuang Niepan, a book that carries memories and reflections. With delicate prose and keen insight, it follows the growth and emotional journey of the protagonist, Shu Changqing, over 35 years. Its structure draws on the way time is experienced in memory, weaving fragments of recollection together into a complete whole.

The story spans 35 years, a period of tremendous change in rural Chinese society. It is about far more than the despair, disillusionment, loneliness, and sorrow that a poor college student inevitably experiences while growing up. Through the eyes of an ordinary person, it reveals the fate of people at the bottom of society, reflecting how people interact with society and the inevitable condition of the individual in the world. The novel is like a brilliant pearl, lighting the way as we seek the true meaning of life.

The story begins in poor Yanshui Township, Jiangzhi County. Life is hard there, but under the leadership of successive township Party committees and governments, the people of Yanshui have embraced the disaster-area spirit of "I'd rather die working than endure a life of hardship." They struggle against the elements, time and again rallying to leave poverty behind and achieve moderate prosperity, composing a magnificent story with their sweat and blood. After years of effort, Yanshui Township finally escaped poverty and now steadily advances in linking the gains of poverty alleviation with rural revitalization.

Through Shu Changqing's story, 35 Years of the Heart's Journey shows us the twists of fate, tangled family relationships, individual loneliness, and life's many bittersweet flavors. It is like a clear spring flowing through our hearts.
