An Lingrong Reborn: Long Live the Consort

“I’m sorry. In the end, I was the one who ruined the peaceful life you could have had.” An Lingrong’s consciousness slowly faded. Zhen Huan’s figure grew blurry before her eyes. She could no longer hold on to the bitter almonds in her hand. With a soft clatter, they fell to the ground. She thought back on her short life. From the day she was born, her father had never cared for her, and her mother had struggled terribly at home. Without Aunt Xiao’s help, who knew what sort of life they would have had? At the palace selection, she had been timid and cautious, yet still accidentally spilled tea and offended someone. Fortunately, Zhen Huan stepped in to help, sparing her from having to kneel and apologize. After entering the palace, her rank was low and anyone could bully her. When she finally won the emperor’s favor, she could not hold on to it. Her insecurity and sensitivity made her easy to manipulate, and misunderstandings drove her further and further from Zhen Huan and Meizhuang. She became a pawn of the Empress. Even after discovering that the Empress was kind in appearance but vicious at heart, it was already too late to turn back. In the end, all she could do was sigh that everything was fate, and nothing was up to her. The only thing she could decide for herself was to end her life with a few handfuls of bitter almonds. As her consciousness dissolved, every event of her life played before An Lingrong’s eyes like scenes in a lantern show, until at last they all vanished into darkness. If Heaven would grant her another chance, she would never make the same mistakes again! The other characters will mostly stay in character. This has nothing to do with official history, and I won’t force the story to follow it. Since Lingrong has been reborn, I’ll give her the best possible life without making things too far-fetched. I hope you understand.
