Farming and Building Infrastructure in Ancient Times

A historical romance, two male leads, farming and infrastructure-building, and a story about making a living, set in an imaginary ancient world. Zuo Meng is the bottom, while Yuan Minze is the top, also known as Qin Zhuo. Through a twist of fate, Zuo Meng transmigrates into the body of a starving little beggar in another ancient world. A beggar’s staff, a dilapidated temple, and a chipped bowl: a hellish start. At last, he manages to survive by relying on memories of his past life to find medicinal herbs in the mountains and catch fish to sell. But the villagers set their sights on him, forcing him to flee to the city. Zuo Meng has no family, influence, or support, but he does have a store of knowledge. With one clever idea after another, he earns the backing of the Qian family and makes his way from a small town to the imperial capital. He originally thought that if he gave the Qian family ways to make money, he could settle down and live as a wealthy man. But his riches become a liability, and he has to give away his wealth to save his life. After repeatedly settling down, making a fortune, giving it away, and fleeing, Zuo Meng finally arrives with Minze in Dongshan, northern Beiyin, the home of Minze’s maternal family. Having reliable family is wonderful! After all that drifting around, Zuo Meng develops a fear of running out of food. So, let’s reclaim wasteland, farm, and stockpile grain. Then someone comes along to bully them, and Zuo Meng develops a fear of not having enough firepower. So, let’s build a city and forge swords. Through Zuo Meng and his people’s tireless efforts, Dongshan City gradually grows prosperous and powerful. The neighboring small clans apply to join Dongshan City, and merchants from other countries all want exclusive trading deals with it. Zuo Meng gives a grand wave of his hand: let’s open up trade routes across the Fuzhou Continent and bring prosperity to all. There’s little warfare in this story, and it’s covered briefly. The main focus is on making money and surviving. He starts out as a pitiful fugitive, but once he reaches Beiyin, he finally settles down for good.
