Your Honor, May I Overstep My Place?

The Chief Justice rarely had the time or inclination to reflect on anything. Yet every time he saw that man, he couldn't help thinking: Was he perhaps indulging the Duke of Meropide a little too much? Neuvillette didn't look up. He simply asked in an even tone, “Is Sigewinne busy and unable to come?” “Ah~ How did you guess?” Wriothesley's voice was languid, like a cat on the streets of Fontaine stretching after waking up in the winter sunshine. “Because, at the very least, when Sigewinne is here, you knock politely before coming in.” “Ah~ I knew it.” “But please forgive this little duke, Your Honor. I really didn't have a hand free to knock, all right~” Neuvillette looked up and saw his beloved smiling as he carried in both hands all the little cakes Neuvillette loved and the black tea he liked. The sweet fragrance of cake filled the air, and Neuvillette relaxed without even realizing it. “All right. Wait for me a moment. I'll be done soon. Be good and go play somewhere~”
