The Great Ming: A Journey Against the Current
Liu Haoyu, a recent university graduate in the modern world, tumbles off a ten-thousand-zhang cliff while traveling in the Kunlun Mountains. When he wakes, he finds a cultivation manual in his mind and an antique ring on his index finger. As he rubs the ring, he accidentally triggers a rift in time and space and is swept back five hundred years to the Ming dynasty. He finds himself in a time that is both strange and familiar, feeling startled and delighted.
Using his knowledge, Liu Haoyu cleverly establishes himself in Ming society. He becomes an obscure cultivator, and while traveling, meets a woman named Zhao Hanming. Her father, Zhao Yanche, is a government official.
Gradually, Liu Haoyu discreetly observes the politics, economy, and culture of the era. He witnesses the cruelty of power struggles and feels the suffering of the common people.
As he comes to understand Ming society more deeply, Liu Haoyu realizes that the era is facing crises both within and without. Torn between morality and emotion, he must decide: should he stay out of it, or bravely step forward and bring a glimmer of hope for change to this age?
After careful consideration, Liu Haoyu decides to use his knowledge and wisdom to quietly promote a series of reforms. He advises Zhao Yanche, helping him expose the schemes of powerful ministers to the emperor, promote agriculture and commerce, and improve the people’s standard of living. Zhao Yanche’s actions shake the court and the country, making him a target for everyone.
Yet Liu Haoyu always manages to resolve the Zhao family’s troubles with ease...
