Zhang Qiling first met his maternal uncle, Jiang Cuo, at a lama temple in Motuo; the last time he saw him was at the nursing home in Golmud, Qinghai.
His final memory was of Jiang Cuo holding a knife in his right hand, protecting him as they escaped the Golmud nursing home. In his recollection, the bullet pierced Jiang Cuo's chest, and blood splattered across Zhang Qiling's face.
In the grip of his amnesia, he didn't know who the person before him was. He only felt a wrenching pain in his chest. After Xie Jiu pulled him into a car and took him away, he never saw Jiang Cuo again for twenty years.
