Lu Ziqing has two faces: one is that of a humble country doctor, the other is Lan Lingfeng, a name that strikes fear throughout the martial world.

His sole reason for living is to find his master.

Concealing his identity, he joins the military, hoping to earn his way into the imperial palace through military service.

But his plan spirals out of control when he meets Xiao Yan, the Marquis of Dingbei.

This cold-blooded god of war treats him with inexplicable kindness, recommending him for special opportunities and protecting him at every turn.

Lu Ziqing has no idea that Xiao Yan has been searching for him for nine years.

The marquis's residence has a grove of osmanthus trees that bloom for one person alone. In his study, locked away for nine years, are long letters that were never sent. Every word says what he could never bring himself to speak: “I'll wait for you.”

Lu Ziqing navigates plots and deadly dangers until the weight of his birth brings him down and lands him in the death-row prison.

Xiao Yan says, “If you soar among the clouds and happen to fall, I'll be there to catch you.”

In the darkness, the only light comes from the “old tales of the mountains” that Xiao Yan recounts in his letters.

The day that light goes out, Lu Ziqing dies.

The one who survives is a madman who slaughters his way through the martial world and turns his sword toward the imperial capital.

One night, his hair turns white. One thought, and he becomes a demon.

After seven years of bloodshed across the martial world, he finally reaches the imperial capital in the name of Lan Lingfeng, driven there for one person.

As arrows rain from the sky, he gives a chilling laugh. “For his life alone, I'll make every one of you pay with your own today.”

And the man who filled nine years of longing into his letters, the man Lu Ziqing thought had long been dead, is pushing through the ranks of soldiers and walking toward him.
