A Dream in the Great Void Reveals the Great Dao

The legends of the immortals go back to ancient times. There was the man who lost himself in a game of Go, and later came the tale of Zhang Sanfeng ascending to immortality. But where do immortals come from, and how does one become immortal? Isn’t it all rather far-fetched? Even if it’s fantasy, there must be a reason behind it. So what’s wrong with seeking out the cause and effect? Immortals are part of Taoist belief, and Taoism originated in the teachings of Daoism. The hallmark of Daoist thought is Laozi’s Tao Te Ching. The Tao Te Ching systematically explains how to govern a country through the Dao. Yet rulers throughout history never truly put its teachings into practice. Faced with a reality beyond saving, Laozi could only “ride his ox out through the western pass, leaving neither smoke nor dust behind”! He left with a long sigh, but among the people he left behind a trace of the immortal. And so came the Supreme Lord Lao, the beautiful and eerie Realm of Great Void, and a wealth of legends about immortals! To govern through the Dao became a legend among legends. To prove that it could be done, the Supreme Lord Lao summoned me to the Realm of Great Void while I was lost in a drunken dream. He helped me comprehend the Great Dao and bestowed many supernatural abilities on me, so I could put the Dao into practice in a simulated world “almost like reality.” In the end, it all evolved into a utopian dream. In short, the immortals have not abandoned the world. In the end, they will serve it!
