She Took Ill and Never Recovered

【Healing and redemption】【Love grows over time】【Second-chance reunion】 Unconventional top student Lin Jianxi × morally upright school heartthrob Chen Qian Lin Jianxi escaped the battered, storm-tossed home where she had grown up. Her mother, whom she hadn’t seen in years, had started a new family. To stay in that family, Lin Jianxi put on an acting performance every day. In front of everyone, she could be a fragile porcelain doll. One moment she could take on two thugs by herself; the next, she’d collapse and whimper, “I’m so delicate!” In front of her mother, she became a thoughtful, caring daughter. She would cry copiously and act heartbroken for her mother, while secretly beating her chest in frustration: “I just want to make money!” In front of her domineering aunt, she was a wildflower growing wherever she pleased. She seemed composed and clear-eyed, but inwardly she was delighted: “This is too easy. I’ve got her wrapped around my finger.” She never expected Chen Qian, her unrelated younger brother, to catch a glimpse of her true self one day. Lin Jianxi warned him, “Say a word and you’re done for!” He just smiled. “You don’t have to pretend in front of me.” When her painful past was dug up, she played the victim as usual. Chen Qian ignored her, so she berated him for having no sympathy. Chen Qian said, “I don’t feel sorry for you. My heart aches for you.” Lin Jianxi couldn’t understand why Chen Qian, the favored son of heaven, would like her. Lin Jianxi had always loved only herself, and she believed love was an illness that needed to be cured. The spirited young man stood in the sunlight and reached a hand toward her in the shadows. “If love is an illness, then I refuse treatment.” She could solve problems, but she couldn’t make sense of romance. Self-interest was her guiding principle. But later, she fell so deeply in love she could hardly get up. “Love is an illness. No one falls gravely ill in an instant. Every second after I met you was part of my long incubation period.”
