Our understanding of philosophy is in any case connected with Greece. If human knowledge all begins with the discussion of philosophy to some extent, then it can also be said that to some extent we are all apprentices of Greece. This certainly does not mean that Greek civilization has superiority and priority over other civilizations, but it does mean that mankind has benefited from philosophy as a way of thinking and seeking knowledge for a long time. The Greeks laid a basic example for a way of seeking knowledge based on pure reason, and this kind of knowledge exploration based on curiosity has become the main way of existence for people in different eras. The glory of Greek philosophy is chiefly associated with Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. This set of translations attempts to go further and associate the glory of Greek philosophy with more philosophers—Epicurus, Cicero, Seneca, Epictetus, Philo, Gregory of Nyssa, Pluclus, Boethius, Augustine and other names. In the chronicles, many of them were already Romans, and some were already Christians in faith, but they were still, to some extent, or the main part of their writings, continuing the glory of Greek philosophy. They interpret the profoundness of speculation into the practice of life, transform the power of thought into the courage of faith, and interpret the concept of city-state into world citizens. They expanded the possibilities of Greek thought and interpreted the relationship between human civilization and Greek civilization. This series of books is named the "Translation Series of Philosophical Classics of the Two Greek Civilizations" and also aims to show the conflict and interdependence between Greek civilization and Hebrew civilization. Greece in the Hellenistic period and Greece in the Roman era are no longer Greece in the city-state era. The diverse pattern of civilizations provides a broader horizon for philosophical thinking and ideological paths. Thinkers in the Hellenistic and Roman era were committed to more individual, temporal, historical and practical philosophical explorations. They were more interested in shaping the advent of hope in a secular world and establishing a world citizen identity in the era of a country. In this era and in subsequent generations, philosophy is no longer just a national undertaking, but also the eternal ambition of human knowledge exploration. Philosophers have opened up the picture of the modern world while requieming ancient philosophy, looking forward to the end of the world in the continuation of history, and seeing the deeper and further future of mankind in the tension between the two Greek civilizations. Ten years later, this series of books was revised and republished, and my sustenance is even deeper! It's the order! Bao Limin, Zhang Xuefu, May 2016
