The General’s Wife Volunteers to Lead the Campaign to Avenge Her Husband

Feng Tianjiao and the Prince of Nan'an were deeply in love. But her father and General Xiao reached an agreement and betrothed her to Xiao Beicheng, the young general. Feng Tianjiao protested by refusing to eat, but her father was a marshal, and once he had promised her to the Xiao family, he couldn't go back on his word. The Prince of Nan'an also begged his imperial brother to cancel the marriage between Feng Tianjiao and the Xiao family, but the emperor said, “How can I help my own brother steal someone else's bride? If I did that, wouldn't I be bullying General Xiao? How could I expect the people of the realm to remain loyal?” Feng Tianjiao and the prince had no choice but to sever their ties. So that she could live happily as a general's wife, the prince married two secondary consorts as mere ornaments before her wedding. After marrying the general, Feng Tianjiao observed proper etiquette, respected and loved her husband, and showed filial devotion to her parents-in-law. Yet the general continued to suspect her, convinced that she and the prince still had feelings for each other. More than two years into their marriage, word arrived that the general had died in battle. The enemy army had desecrated his body, cut out his heart and liver, and hung them from the city walls. Feng Tianjiao volunteered to go to war and avenge her husband… What? The general isn't dead? He really is a shameless wretch…
