What Mount Ling Never Told: The 108,000-Li Journey of Wukong's Secret Disciple

In the story of Tang Sanzang's journey west to obtain the scriptures with Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing, there was one being who was never mentioned: Sun Wukong's secret disciple, Yuntong. Yuntong was a cloud formed from the essence of Heaven and Earth. By a twist of fate, Sun Wukong rescued him and, under his guidance, Yuntong took human form and learned basic magic and martial arts. Because of Yuntong's special identity, he could not travel west with Tang Sanzang, so Sun Wukong secretly instructed him to follow and protect the pilgrimage party. Thus began a whole new journey. Yuntong's perspective was unique: he was both observer and participant, witnessing countless moving stories and the secrets hidden behind them. His adventures took him from the borders of the Great Tang to Vulture Peak, from bustling markets to the lairs of demons and monsters, from mysterious fairy realms to perilous deserts. Along the way, Yuntong not only learned how to use his powers, but also came to understand the meaning of responsibility, courage, and sacrifice. This book offers a fresh interpretation of the characters in a classic tale, showing how their destinies might unfold differently while introducing new characters and storylines to breathe new life into the traditional classic. Through Yuntong's eyes, readers can discover a more vivid and nuanced world of Journey to the West, and experience emotions and philosophies the classic never explored.
