A Fifty-Year-Old Woman Guards the Border, Her Song Challenges Six Nations

Before I went on a music variety show, the whole internet hated me and said all I could sing were cheesy pop songs.

Some even claimed that my existence set Chinese pop music back fifty years.

Then the show Singer was in trouble: “A fifty-year-old woman is guarding the nation’s gates. I want those foreigners dead!”

After I appeared on the show, people said, “Adele’s high notes and Jessie J’s vocal runs can’t compare to Su Yu crushing it with one song.”

“I always thought Su Yu was bluffing when he called himself a singer-songwriter. I’m on my knees now!”

“I used to complain he was too full of himself. Turns out his voice really is that high. He’s half the Chinese music scene!”

I never expected that going on a music variety show just once could turn public opinion around and clear my name.
