The Marquis's Lady

I was married to the Marquis for twenty years, and we always treated each other with respect. When we were old enough to be expecting grandchildren, he brought home a mistress and an illegitimate son. The Marquis not only insisted that his mistress be made his co-wife, but also wanted his illegitimate son to become the heir. I fought the Marquis for a long time over our son’s future, but my son accused me of being domineering and overbearing, and of ruining the harmonious atmosphere of the Marquis’s household. He willingly handed the heir’s title to someone else and ignored me, his own mother, while treating the mistress and her family like his own. Utterly despairing, I wasted away and died. When I opened my eyes again, I had been reborn at the moment the Marquis brought his mistress home. This time, the mistress wants to be made his co-wife? Let her. She’s the one who’ll bring shame on the Marquis’s household. My son wants to give up the title of heir? Let him. It’s not my future he’s giving away. But later, as I enjoy a carefree life in the back courtyard, they come to me in tears, begging for help.
