Denied in Life, Denied in Death

The day before I was supposed to get engaged to Chen Yanxiu, my parents sent me to prison. When my three-year sentence was over, Chen Yanxiu was the only one who came to pick me up. I knew he despised me. Shaking with fear, I kept my head down and tried to sneak away. But Chen Yanxiu stepped in front of me, frowning. “Ye Qianqian? You stink.” Pinching his nose, he told me to get in the car. I fell to my knees and begged him desperately not to take me home. If he did, I would die. He was utterly cold. “Then go die!” I agreed. But later, he cried and begged me to stay alive.
