Beiyang Night Bridge isn't the name of a bridge or a place. It's short for "the overpass in Chaoyang, Beijing, at night."
After careful consideration, I chose these four characters as the title of this story. Each character could stand alone as the title of a folk song, while together they have the grandeur of an idiom. It's both artsy and highbrow, perfectly capturing the spirit of web novels today. I tapped my head and said to myself, "You're a genius!" Then I shook my head proudly and shouted to the owner of the dumpling shop, "A bottle of Beibingyang and beef-and-scallion dumplings to go! You can skip breakfast, but you can't go without a midnight snack."
In truth, most of the world's legends are simply ordinary people turning their intentions into action.
I thought about it.
Living here, the popular thing is to eat a midnight snack. People have broken up the old routine of three meals a day, rearranged it, improved it, and reshaped food culture. That's not being irregular; that's innovation. I think it's more appropriate to call it reforming yourself, or keeping up with the times. After all, plenty of people follow the trend of eating just one meal a day, getting thin enough to look like anatomy models while still chanting that they're on a diet. It's all just a form of self-comfort.
With midnight snacks, the night gets a little shorter. After eating, people like to take a stroll before heading back to bed. And that's how we get to the story I'm about to tell, the full title of which is the one above.
