Comedy in the Siheyuan

The story of Yuan, a literary young man, as he strives to become an internet celebrity. The plot is absurd and funny, yet rich in meaning and thought-provoking. It's a comedy that will make today's artsy young people cry.

Yuan is actually a pen name. He writes online, revealing his secrets and publishing web novels, all under that name. He's become a minor celebrity in online literary circles.

A young intellectual from the bottom rung of city life, a bit of a firebrand, Yuan sets his sights on becoming a master and writes a motto to spur himself on: “Are masters and bigwigs born special?”

That's right: hard work may not bring success, but without hard work, success is impossible.

Yuan writes about all the misfortune and embarrassment he encounters, then turns it into stand-up comedy. It ends up making him a success. Yuan becomes famous overnight and truly turns into an internet celebrity. He gets a home and a girlfriend. Of course, no one's path to success is ever smooth. Yuan continues to face setbacks and obstacles.

Yuan can't stand the petty mindset of laughing at those who have nothing and resenting those who have something. He isn't the kind of person who plays mahjong, eats and drinks, and grumbles while blaming everyone else and demanding handouts from his parents and society. Yuan relies on his own hard work to make his life worthwhile.
