This book is very interesting. I personally think it is a necessary element to present love through different marriage endings. Maybe in the society at that time, women were passive parties in marriage and love, and few people were willing to pursue true love like Elizabeth and Jane. I think Charlotte's compromise or Lydia's impulsiveness are the portrayal of most women at that time in terms of marriage. I watched the 2005 movie first and then the novel. At first I didn't think the movie was particularly good. First of all, the male protagonist Darcy struck me as a bit old-fashioned and not particularly handsome.
