My First Half Life

This book is an unabridged version of the autobiography of the last emperor Puyi. It truly and comprehensively reflects the final dying struggle of the Qing Dynasty and Puyi's legendary and complicated first half of his life. It provides a glimpse into the details of China's modern history. This book is divided into twelve chapters, in which Puyi narrates his life of more than fifty years from his birth to his amnesty after being reformed. The content includes Puyi's family, childhood, experiences in various places after abdicating the throne, as well as his confession, reform, and amnesty. Puyi made a profound introspection on the first half of his life, and his own experience is also evidence that exposes the crimes of Japanese militarism. The content recorded in this manuscript has been adapted into film and television works many times. Among them, the film "The Last Emperor" won many film and television awards including the Academy Award in 1987.
