The Four Trainings of Liaofan (Essence)

At the age of seventeen, Yuan Huang was predicted by the divine fortune teller Mr. Kong that he could only pass the imperial examination. He died young at the age of fifty-three, without a son, and lived a decadent life. Until he was thirty-seven years old, he went to Qixia Mountain to visit Zen Master Yungu. That day, Yuan Huang repented and changed his name to Fan, which meant that he would give up his ordinary life and start actively doing good deeds to accumulate blessings. Later, he not only lived to the age of seventy-four, but also won the Jinshi Scholarship and gave birth to his son Yuan Tianqi, who later also won the Jinshi Scholarship. "The Four Precepts of Liaofan" is the family motto he left to his descendants. It consists of four articles: "The Learning of Destiny", "The Method of Correction", "The Method of Accumulating Good Deeds" and "The Effect of Modesty". It integrates the thoughts of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, and expounds the principle of "I make my destiny" through personal experience. As soon as it was published, it became one of the most popular family mottos and has been popular for more than 400 years. His ideas and wisdom are still very much alive today.
