We Married by Contract, but He Actually Made It Real

Chi Chu Rou grew up under her older sister’s protection, and she swore she would win the inheritance battle for the Chi family, no matter what it took. So the first thing she did after racing back to the country was marry the ally her sister had found for her. But when she saw who it was, she froze from head to toe, so embarrassed she wanted the floor to swallow her. She was actually going to marry the family friend’s younger uncle, the one she’d declared she would marry when she was four. How had things come to this? When she was four, she tugged at a boy’s sleeve and announced to everyone in the room, “When I grow up, I’m going to marry him.” Everyone burst out laughing. Only he nodded solemnly. “Okay.” At twenty-four, she linked her arm through a man’s and announced to everyone in the room, “I’m going to marry him.” Everyone fell silent. Only he gazed at her tenderly. “Our engagement was settled twenty years ago.” They had agreed it was only a marriage of convenience, a show to fool everyone else. But after the wedding, she realized something was off about this man. He was actually taking it seriously.
