Welcome, everyone, to my work. In the tenth year of the Jiading era of the Southern Song, the imperial court clings to a corner of the land, squeezed between the Jin in the north and the Mongols in the south. The martial world is in turmoil, and corrupt ministers hold sway. Outside Lin'an, Liu Yungui, a former member of Yue Fei's army and grandfather of Liu Qing, lives in seclusion on Mount Cuiwei. He secretly hides the Wu Mu Legacy, entrusted to him by Yue Fei on his deathbed. Before he dies, he tells his grandson Liu Qing, “This book records the life's work of Lord Yue. Only someone who upholds what is right for all under heaven may open it. In the hands of a wise ruler, it could help restore our land...” Before he can finish, Jin experts and the court's hounds attack the cottage. Liu Yungui fights to the death, while Liu Qing escapes with half a jade pendant.
Meanwhile, Wu Ming, a descendant of the Liangshan hero Wu Song; Yang Muxin, a descendant of the Yang family generals; and Bao Jing, the great-granddaughter of Bao Zheng, are all hunted because of their families' ties to Yue Fei's army. Four family tokens, the Four Symbols Jade given by Zhou Botong of the Quanzhen Sect, divided into Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise jade pieces, are the only clues that can bring them together. They are also tied to a promise made in their youth: if the descendants are a man and a woman, the tokens will serve as betrothal gifts and they will marry; if they are of the same sex, they will become siblings.
