Before there was Heaven, there was Pangu; but the Supreme Immortal came even before Pangu. Legend says the Lord of Pangu had a dragon's head and a serpent's body. His breath became wind and rain, his sighs became thunder and lightning. When his eyes opened, it was day; when they closed, it was night. After he died, his bones became mountains and forests, his body became rivers and seas, his blood became the Huai and other great rivers, and his hair became plants and trees. But only a rare few gain entry to one of the four great sects. Most have to join other sects, though at the very least they can make a living in the Central Plains.
The story begins with a man called Banxian. Born in the western desert, he crossed countless hardships to reach the Central Plains alone. He ran out of money along the way, and his ordinary aptitude meant he had no chance of entering one of the four great sects. By a twist of fate, he joined Black Ox Cave on Great Green Mountain, setting out on the path of cultivation...
