The moon sank toward the west, and the stars shimmered. Yellow leaves whirled through the air, while the wind carried a stinging, nauseating stench of blood. The scene was bleak and terrifying.
A dozen or so yards away, two figures rose to their full height from the tall grass. One had sunken eye sockets, cheeks devoid of flesh, and a hooked nose like a falcon's beak. His gaze was dark, and he stood about seven feet tall. Dressed in a black robe that fluttered in the night wind, he looked like a ghost standing stark against the sky, sending chills through anyone who saw him.
The other was a stunning young woman in black. Her bright eyes and pearly teeth, set beneath the cold moonlight, made her beauty all the more striking, like a frost plum standing proudly alone.
Thus began their lives behind the ghost masks.
