The Human-Skin Doll

There was a rumor in our village:

If you soaked a girl who had just come of age in water for forty-nine days, then peeled the skin from her corpse and made it into a blessing doll, placing it in a room and feeding it fresh blood every day,

you could ward off misfortune and attract wealth.

I thought it was just a legend,

until the day my younger sister disappeared.
