The full name of the "Infinite Life Sutra" is "The Buddha's Infinite Life Sutra", also known as the "Great Amitabha Sutra" (see Chinese translation). It is one of the basic classics of the Pure Land Sect and one of the "Five Pure Land Sutras". Most of the Pure Land Sect's practice methods can find theoretical basis in this sutra. The sutra introduces the great vows made by Amitabha Buddha (the Buddha of Infinite Life) (the number varies depending on the version, the most is forty-eight), the establishment of Amitabha Pure Land to guide all living beings in the world in the ten directions, and the general appearance of Amitabha Pure Land.
