The Buddha Says the Samadhi Sea Sutra

Sanskrit name Buddha dhya^na sama^dhisa^gara su^tra. There are ten volumes and twelve articles. Translated by Buddha Bhadra of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Also known as the Avalokitesvara Samadhi Sutra and the Avalokitesvara Sutra. Collected in Volume 15 of the Taisho Collection. This sutra was taught by the Buddha in the Nikuruda Forest in Kapila City to his father King Yuetoutan, his aunt Kadammi, and others, who taught him how to dwell in the Samadhi of contemplating the Buddha. He also said that this Samadhi has profound merits and can lead to liberation. There are twelve grades in this sutra: (1) Six examples, (2) Preface to the ground, (3) Appearance, (4) Buddha's mind, (5) Four immeasurables, (6) Four majesties, (7) Horse King's collection, (8) True practice, (9) Imagery, (10) Seven Buddhas, (11) Buddhas in the ten directions, (12) Buddha's secret practice. The single translation Quebenlu of Volume 14 of the Kaiyuan Buddhism Record lists a volume of the Samadhi Sutra translated by Kumarajiva, but its similarities and differences with this sutra are unknown.
