The Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra, also known as the Great Prajnaparamita Sutra, has twenty-seven volumes (one volume is twenty-four, or thirty, or forty), and was translated by Kumarajiva in the fifth to sixth year of Yao Qinhong's reign (AD 403-404). Collected in Volume 8, Volume 223 of "Taisho Zang". This sutra is said to have 22,000 verses according to Volume 100 of the Great Wisdom Treatise, but there is another edition of 20,000 verses in southern India (the edition on which the Sutra of Appearance is based), and the second version of the Mahaprajna Sutra translated by Master Xuanzang has 25,000 verses (see Volume 100 of Fayuan Zhulin). These are all increased or decreased due to the spread of time and place, but they are all named after the "Twenty-five Thousand Verses of Prajna Sutra".
