Synopsis

This memoir by former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill is an abridged version of his six-volume memoir, The Second World War, totaling 900,000 words. As a participant in World War II, a key figure in the decisive Allied victory, and one of the Big Three, Churchill draws on a wealth of authoritative firsthand sources. Writing in the first person, he offers a comprehensive, vivid, and authoritative account and analysis of the war, from its causes and course to the events that led to decisive victory. The book is divided into four parts: Part One, The Gathering Storm (1919–May 10, 1940). Part Two, Their Finest Hour (May 10, 1940–June 22, 1941), recounting the failure of the Battle of France, which left Britain fighting alone. Part Three, The Grand Alliance (beginning December 7, 1941). Part Four, Triumph and Tragedy (1943–1945).

Any Novels with Expert-Level Military and Weapons Knowledge?

A lot of war novels are written by people who know nothing about the military. They lack even basic knowledge of weapons and military affairs. The calibers are all over the place, MG42s show up right from the start, and there are piles of artillery that don’t fit the circumstances at all. Then there’s that Italian cannon: the 1897 model was already obsolete by World War II.
