Sleeping in the Rain

Among the Phoenix clan, every hatchling must endure a tribulation upon emerging from its shell. But Shi Yun endured hers with both bird and egg intact, making her the first of her kind.

Born into a tribulation, she would face hardship all her life.

She had no idea that enduring a tribulation meant suddenly taking over someone else's body. She had to live out the remaining months of the original Shen Yun's life, but here she felt both the warmth and the danger that she had never known in the immortal realm. Those who deserved vengeance would get it, and those who deserved gratitude would receive it.

With Shen Yun's body and her own soul, she would protect the people. They raised torches and surrounded her, shouting for her to be burned alive. In that moment, she no longer wanted to struggle desperately. Fire could not kill a phoenix. What killed one was the greed of the people.

From the moment she was reborn in the flames, she had borne a heavy responsibility. She was herself, and yet she was not.

Clouds and rain shift with the seasons; wind and waves make the depths impossible to fathom.

The phoenix's song casts aside the notes of zither and lute, while its rainbow robes bid farewell to spring's finery.
