“Hurry up and eat your meal.”
“Okay, I’ll eat in a minute.”
“You’ve said that at least five times already.”
“I can’t help it. I just love fruit.”
“Even so, you can’t eat fruit instead of a proper meal.”
“Why not? If I could, I’d eat fruit every day. Too bad my salary’s limited. I wish the heavens would give me an orchard.”
Neither of them noticed the shooting star streaking across the sky outside the window as they talked.
“If that ever happened, you’d definitely regret it.”
“No, I wouldn’t.”
“I’ve got the best news ever. My wish came true.”
“You got an orchard?”
“Yep. Look.” As soon as she finished speaking, a freshly picked bunch of grapes appeared in her hand.
“Wow! That’s the kind of thing that only happens in novels, and it happened to you.”
“Just proves I’m lucky.”
“Okay, you’re lucky, but be careful. You still need to eat proper meals.”
“I know.”
As if!
How could a proper meal compete with sweet, delicious fruit?
A month later,
Wasn’t rice delicious?
Weren’t chicken, fish, meat, and eggs delicious?
Why had she asked for an orchard?
And so she knelt beneath the fruit trees in the orchard, crying and begging the heavens to show mercy and kindness once more by granting her a pill of regret.
