Walden Pond (Hardcover Collector's Edition)
"Walden" is a collection of essays written by American writer Henry David Thoreau, describing what he saw, heard and thought when he lived alone on the shores of Walden Pond for more than two years. This is a book that advocates simple life and loves nature and scenery. It has rich content, far-reaching meaning and vivid language. In the book, Thoreau detailedly recorded his daily life at Walden Pond, from the changing scenery of the four seasons to the fight between two ants, all of which were vividly reproduced in his vivid writing. His description is not superficial, but permeated with wise and refined philosophical thinking. He advocates returning to nature and dividing things in the world into necessities and luxuries. He believes that if people keep their desires within the scope of necessities, they can enjoy life more calmly and fully. He satirizes the bourgeoisie, sympathizes with farmers, loves farming life, and seeks an authentic and natural way of life. In addition, "Walden" also expresses Thoreau's profound thinking on the relationship between man and nature. He firmly maintains the classical ecology of nature and believes that only in nature can human beings maintain their pure and beautiful nature. He worries that all good things will disappear with the development of people's utilitarian purposes, and Walden Pond will also become a lake of memory. His thoughts were infiltrated with Chinese Confucian and Taoist understandings, which also subtly influenced his writing and thinking. In general, "Walden" is a collection of essays that depicts natural scenery, explores the relationship between man and nature, and pursues simple life. It not only has literary value, but also provides us with profound thinking about life, society and nature.
This book made me feel the beauty and tranquility of nature. As a father of two children, I also hope that like Thoreau, they can learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and pursue inner peace. As the book says: "I walked into the jungle because I want to live meaningfully, I want to live deeply and absorb all the essence of life." This sentence is really inspiring and makes me cherish the time with my children more, and also makes me pay more attention to cultivating their inner world.
It would be a great blessing to be able to read this book in my youth and understand part of it.
Ten years ago, I bought a paper book by chance. When I started reading it, I felt it was boring and I put it down after reading a few pages. I picked up this book again and read it aloud to increase my interest in reading. After reading this book, I feel that it is indeed a good book. The author's avant-garde and detached thinking can purify the empty soul of the current era. It can be read again and again, and you can deeply understand its connotation.
One of my favorite books right now
A must-read classic, very philosophical
A good-looking book, no longer anxious, everything goes as it should.
Very cool! The observations are particularly careful and the depictions are very vivid! Very picturesque! Some of the plots resonate!
