Synopsis

In the age of Mesopotamia, one human wipes out nearly all the gods, leaving only a handful. The king of Uruk is his younger brother. In Britain, he sees the future of a golden-haired girl and receives her care. Before the girl can draw it, he pulls the sword of kingship from the stone. Meeting her worried gaze, he grins. “Don't worry. I have experience being king.” The Saxons flee in disarray. Vortigern trembles uncontrollably. The people of Britain cheer, and the members of the Knights of the Round Table gaze at him with fervent admiration. Just as everyone believes their new king will lead Britain into an era of prosperity, dragons and giants appear in the world above, laying waste to the land. “Give up. Britain's destruction is already fated,” says the mage who once made that prophecy. But he looks at the dragons and giants, then at the mage. The gentle smile that used to grace his face is gone. “Destruction? Then let the giants and dragons, and all the mysteries of Avalon, be buried with it.” … He has slain gods and slaughtered mysteries. And for the sake of the children, he once slaughtered the entire world.
