The Return of the Condor Heroes: Restoring the Great Yan

After Qiao Feng took his own life, A Zi gouged out her eyes and returned them to Zhuang Juxian, then leaped into a bottomless chasm with Qiao Feng’s body in her arms. Xu Zhu returned to Western Xia to serve as its prince consort, while Duan Yu took Wang Yuyan and his other younger sisters back to Dali to indulge in a life of debauchery among his many wives and concubines. The insane Murong Fu was abandoned by the Murong clan as a group of children shouted “Long live the emperor!” He wandered the streets proclaiming himself emperor, and the local authorities hunted him down for treason. He was later rescued by Ouyang Lan, the leader of the Nanhai Sect, and her daughter Wang Ping. He studied medicine and martial arts under Ouyang Lan. Murong Fu’s martial arts improved greatly, and, handsome and talented, he outwitted Duan Yu and ended the crisis caused by the Nanhai pirates. Murong Fu succeeded Ouyang Lan as leader of the Nanhai Sect, united its various factions, and greatly strengthened its power. This aroused the suspicion of both the Song court and the Dali kingdom, and the two countries launched repeated campaigns against him in turn. After Murong Fu’s Nanhai Sect was destroyed, he was left without a home. He also learned that Murong Bo was not his biological father: he was a Jurchen from beneath Changbai Mountain. Just as he was in dire straits, his Jurchen relatives rescued him. He and his elder brother went to Changbai Mountain, helped his brother destroy the all-powerful Liao and Song dynasties, and challenged Duan Yu and Xu Zhu to a duel to avenge their humiliation. He later ascended the throne. Though he never restored Great Yan, he founded an empire dozens of times stronger than it had been.
