Emperor Yang of Sui’s forceful and reckless rule turned his great ambitions into brutality and his grand legacy into a nightmare for the people. The once-prosperous Sui dynasty quickly plunged into an irredeemable abyss in history.
Even the mighty Tang Taizong only attempted the daring expedition against Goguryeo once. Emperor Yang, however, did it three times: the first campaign against Goguryeo cost countless soldiers, and public resentment boiled over; the second saw rebellion break out at home, and ended in failure; the third left him beset by troubles at home and abroad, with danger closing in on all sides.
Emperor Yang, who loved touring the realm, also made three trips to Jiangdu. The first two were grand affairs that brought him plenty of prestige and pomp. But on his third trip, he ended up looking utterly miserable and thoroughly defeated.
Though Emperor Yang was fated to be associated with the number three, he was ultimately brought down by three men surnamed Li. Li Mi, once a fugitive forced to hide from place to place, became a leader of the peasant uprisings at the end of the Sui dynasty. Li Yuan and his son Li Shimin were close relatives of Emperor Yang, yet they were also the ones who truly brought the Sui dynasty to an end.
Wow, the content of this book is so exciting! It tells the story of Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty and Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, allowing me to understand the history of the rise and fall of the Sui Dynasty. The description by the author, Teacher Mengman, is very vivid, and I seem to be able to see the changes of that era. Moreover, she asked some interesting questions that made me think about the meaning of life. I think this book not only helps me learn historical knowledge, but also makes me appreciate my current life more!
Very good, the evaluation is very objective and the summary is in place
I want to read all Teacher Mengman's books. ❤️❤️
