The Fool Who Guards the Village

Have you ever heard of a village guardian?

People who live in the countryside have probably seen one before.

Whenever someone in the village holds a wedding or funeral, a simple-minded man comes over to help. He doesn't talk, just works, then quietly squats down and eats when he's done.

That person is a village guardian.

Many villages have one. In some places, there's even a saying: "A village isn't a village without a fool."
