"Either/Or" (volumes 1 and 2) is Kierkegaard's true beginning as a free thinker. It has a typical polyphonic structure and the possibility of multiple interpretations. The author goes against the tradition of European philosophy that focuses on logic and reasoning from concept to concept, and abandons the pursuit of objective truth systems in speculative philosophy. The book does not even have a real "author" and no final conclusion. He creatively provides spokespersons for two different lifestyles, "aesthetic" (the first volume) and "ethical" (the second volume), allowing them to each appear to describe and display their respective lifestyles.
