Peach Blossoms Scatter Across Jiangnan

The Peach Blossom Fan has several endings, but the one I like best is the ending where Hou and Li both renounce the world and leave worldly affairs behind. Wildflowers in the mountains offer a different kind of carefree peace. Against the backdrop of the Ming Dynasty's fall, however, such a happy ending is hard to come by. In 1645, the Yi You Catastrophe struck. Nanjing fell, and its people scattered like dandelion seeds blown to the four winds. Hou Fangyu takes Li Xiangjun out of Nanjing and back to his family home in the north, leaving posterity the beautiful tale of The Peach Blossom Fan. On the page, a full stop is never truly the end. A few years later, Hou Fangyu returns to Nanjing and meets Liu Jingtin, who makes his living as a storyteller. The two agree to meet at Qixia ten years after Yi You, with the Peach Blossom Fan as their token. The story begins with The Peach Blossom Fan once again... It is called The Peach Blossom Fan because peach blossoms scatter.
