The Fool Raises an Army

A Nationalist army officer is left behind when the main force retreats because he is collecting taxes. He uses the tax money to build an army and launches an armed resistance against the Japanese. He plays the pig to eat the tiger, putting on the appearance of a simpleton. By “borrowing a boat to reach the open sea,” he rapidly expands his forces. After raising his troops, he fleeces the Nationalists, cheats the Japanese, and undermines the Eighth Route Army, maneuvering among the various political factions.
