Infinite Transmigration: Back to the Past

To restore Chu to its former place as the strongest state, it must first undertake sweeping reforms within its own borders. First, reward farming and warfare. Encourage agriculture, mobilize the people, and boost productivity. Second, promote the virtuous and capable, appointing people based on merit. No nepotism: those with ability should shoulder more responsibility and earn more. Third, put an end to obstruction. Break down communication barriers between those above and below, so orders can be conveyed and concerns heard without being distorted along the way. Fourth, ban factions. No cliques or political factions: all must work for the people's benefit, especially the nobles and old aristocratic families. Fifth, establish clear rewards and punishments. In the army, both must be governed by the law, encouraging soldiers to fight and improve their individual combat skills while expanding the forces. Military discipline must be upheld, with rewards and punishments applied fairly. Sixth, change customs and habits. Unhealthy practices must be curbed by law, thereby strengthening the state's authority. Qu Yuan believes that after these reforms, Chu will surely come alive again. The people will enjoy better lives and no longer suffer the hardships of wandering and displacement. The young will have support, and the old will be cared for. Though the king has sent him to this remote little city, he believes that enduring hardship now will hone his resolve, and that one day he will have the chance to serve his country.
